Denis has always been an active man. Mayor of the municipality for 20 years, he had also been president of many associations. Then, in 2014, everything changed. Struggling to walk, he felt muscle stiffness that he attributed to a sprain. When his condition did not improve, he decided to see his doctor and received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, characterized by stiffness and the absence of tremors.

Denis was able to continue working thanks to the medications prescribed by his neurologist, but their effectiveness quickly diminished. Fatigued, he had difficulty speaking and walking. No longer able to work, he had to sell his business.

In extreme pain, he slept little and experienced muscle cramps so severe they turned his leg blue. Even alternative medicine was ineffective. Exhausted, Denis asked his neurologist for medical assistance to die.

Completely hopeless, his wife, Nicole, looked for a solution. As a licensed accountant, she had the right to the Best Doctors Network, free of charge, as part of her group insurance. So she immediately contacted one of their nurses. The nurse walked them through the entire process and collected Denis’ medical files and test results, sending them to an expert who would look into his case.

“The team’s care and professionalism greatly contribute to the quality of the service offered by the Best Doctors Network”, says Nicole.

Nicole and Denis and made a francophone neurologist available to answer all of their questions.

This neurologist was not in a rush, which gave us the opportunity to ask all of our questions.”

According to the Best Doctors Network expert, Denis did not have Parkinson’s. He had a related illness, called multisystem atrophy. In his report, he suggested additional tests to confirm the diagnosis and made recommendations based on Denis’ health.

“The report was so detailed that our local community services centre asked us for a copy. e expert examined the entire problem. His explanations and advice gave us great relief, even though we were aware that the disease is degenerative and incurable.”

One month later, Denis’ neurologist adjusted his medication and issued treatment recommendations that corroborated those given by the Best Doctors Network expert. Denis will have to undergo other tests, but he no longer has cramps, thanks to the change in medication, and he now has a better quality of life.

The Best Doctors Network is dedicated to helping us. It is an exceptional service.”
